Last summer time, I visited Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence, R.I., where Virga was about to start his rounds. On my first go to there, Virga and I discovered ourselves in the course of a good-size commotion; it looked as though somebody had activated a fireplace alarm audible only to zoo workers. Keepers and other assorted personnel darted down the lanes with a glance of disquiet.
Grizzly Ridge offers nose-to-nose views of the bears through expansive and kid-size home windows. Sea Lion Landing, a spectacular copy of San Francisco’s Pier 39, options California sea lions and a harbor seal, and brings consciousness to the challenges that come up when wildlife lives in and near human communities. Various endangered and weak Asian species are housed at Riverbanks including tigers, babirusas, siamangs, a tapir, and Komodo dragons.
